Equine facilitated sessions can be a modality for professionals in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, as well as counseling and mental health professionals, to assist clients in reaching their potential. The addition of interaction with a horse opens different mental channels and increases interest in participating in therapeutic activities for many people. 

Our equine professional can provide the setting for you to allow interested clients the opportunity to work with the horses as part of their treatment program. An initial training session will allow you to envision the possibilities, after which you and the InterMission equine professional will work together to create sessions that will maximize the benefit to your clients. 

Some examples:

• Clients with limited mobility benefit from reaching and stretching to groom horses. 

• Nonverbal clients may find it easier to talk to a horse, or in the presence of a horse. 

• Grooming or petting a horse can be a crossing the midline activity to help clients establish and strengthen neural connections. 

• Anxiety and impulsivity can both be reduced through use of Epala(R) activities designed to teach mindfulness and energy regulation.
